Challenge Yourself

It's that time of the year where NaNoWriMo becomes the talk of the writing community! National Novel Writing Month is a challenge to write 50,000 words in thirty days. You go in as you are, a teacher, a parent, warehouse worker and you come out a novelist. This challenge started back in 1999 and officially became a nonprofit organization in 2006 where its website hosts over a million writers and serves as a network for authors, and as a place for personal or group projects.

I have a story that I started working on at the beginning of October but, around this time I was also experiencing burn-out from managing a community discord, streaming, setting this up, and writing on top of being a single parent. So, needless to say, this story is currently a work in progress. With NaNoWriMo, I've now set myself the goal to write 2,000+ words a day to meet the deadline. This also means that I'm challenging myself to not edit and learn to keep writing everything that is in my head without worrying if it's perfect or not. This is supposed to be a draft first anyways. I've also learned that writing without inspiration is a challenge within itself.

When I wanted to write a flash short story, poem, or song it has always been when the inspiration struck. I knew then that the quality would be top-notch! We carry such high expectations of ourselves that we do tend to let the "fear of striking out keep us from playing the game." But that's what creates success - Failure. It's how we learn to thrive and without it, we're practically sitting ducks. No matter what it is we do in life, the good things are never easy. It all takes work, effort, and we have to be willing to put that forth to obtain our goals. Though, it's okay to complain a little and to treat yourself in between! Just make sure you stay on that saddle and don't falter. Even if you do, brush yourself off, whether alone or with someone, and hop back on that horse. If you keep working on yourself, you'll reach your goals in no time.

So, I wish everyone a happy Friday! And I'll see ya'll next week with an update on my progress and more of me just inserting my two cents on random subjects.
