The need to write when inspiration strikes or when something interesting occurs in life is tempting. It's not sustainable, though. That's what has been wracking my brain as of late. Not only that but, I found myself being there for others more lately - being an ear for them to voice their issues to or a shoulder to lean on and cry if needed. My attention went from writing to being a friend and, in a perfect world, isn't that how it should be? Being able to drop everything you're doing in order to be there for the ones who truly need you most. I never truly understood how much mental energy this took but, I know now. That utter drive to do all you can for others while ignoring your own needs. Healers are needed in this world of ours but, how often do the people in our lives hear "You deserve to be heard," "Your feelings are valid," "It's okay to not be okay?" From what I've seen this year, the person you go to about your problems who always has that smile on their face, they don't hear it nearly enough, if at all.
Take the time today to show your appreciation to others. If you're mentally sound, extend the same courtesy and be an ear for someone. It's okay if you don't know what to say. Just listen and be genuine. And the next time you need to vent, let's ask if they're in a mentally good place to listen and remind them that it's okay to say No if they need time for themselves. Healers take care of us. We should take the time to take care of them as well.
